The Jury System in the United States

I reported to the courthouse for jury duty this past Monday. But like about a third of us there, I never made it passed the assembly room into the courtroom for voir dire on a specific case. Although most people would be thrilled with a dismissal, I actually want to serve on a jury; not because I want to send someone to jail, but because it is a duty and an honor to serve as a juror. The only time I've served all the way to a verdict, we acquitted the guy.

On today's radio show, I discussed the history and importance of the jury system in America, the eight times I've been summoned for jury service, the reason I previously found a defendant "not guilty," and the controversial concept of jury nullification. If you'd like to hear it, it is now archived online as a podcast at www.TheMikeBatesShow.com/podcasts/231125
